PFAS in brief
PFAS are man-made chemicals used for decades in nonstick, stain-resistant and water-repellent products and in some firefighting foams. They persist in the environment. EPA has set national drinking water standards for several PFAS, including PFOA and PFOS, with monitoring and compliance phased in over several years.
Where to read the Bal Harbour numbers
- Village 2025 Water Quality Data sheet: its additional contaminants table has a Bal Harbour Village column for PFAS. It is linked from the Village's Public Works water page.
- WASD 2025 Water Quality Report: explains the PFAS rules and timeline in full.
- EPA UCMR 5: nationwide PFAS data collected from public water systems.
PFAS are reported in parts per trillion, far smaller units than the parts per million used for most other lines.
The timeline
The data sheet marks the PFAS table as contaminants for which standards were recently set and initial compliance monitoring is underway, which is why the violation column reads N/A. WASD's report adds that systems must report PFAS results in water quality reports beginning with the 2027 reports, that MCL violation reporting starts in 2029, and that it is taking measures to comply.
Read the footnotes on the sheet; they explain the table's status in a sentence.
Certification that matters
- NSF/ANSI 53: filters for health-related contaminants; can include PFOA and PFOS reduction.
- NSF/ANSI 58: reverse osmosis systems; can include PFOA and PFOS reduction.
Certification belongs to an exact model number. Look it up in the certifier's database, confirm PFOA and PFOS appear, and note the rated capacity.
Our position
Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. If PFAS is your concern, Jorge will walk you through drinking water options and show you how to verify a certification listing for any model, including RO. PFAS testing requires a certified laboratory; the free in-home test covers taste, odor and scale factors.
For tower kitchens
In a Bal Harbour tower, drinking water treatment happens at the kitchen sink. Whatever certified model you choose, change filters on schedule, since certified performance assumes it, and keep the model number and listing with your unit records. Questions to ask any seller: which exact model, which standard, both PFOA and PFOS listed, what capacity, and whether the certification covers the system as installed. See best drinking water system in Bal Harbour, or call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.
Keep your filter receipts with the listing so you can show certified performance was maintained.
