What a whole-home system is for in Cutler Bay
Cutler Bay's water is treated by WASD before it reaches you. The Orr plant lime-softens Biscayne Aquifer water, filters it, and adds chlorine plus ammonia so that chloramine protects the water through miles of county pipe. WASD's 2025 report lists 2.5 ppm of chloramine on the main system, within the limit of 4.
That residual is doing its job in the pipes. Once the water is in your home, many families prefer it gone from the shower and the kitchen. That is the job of a whole-home city water system: comfort, taste and odor at every tap, not fixing a water supply that already meets standards.
What it does not do
- It is not a softener. If your concern is scale, test hardness first; Orr already lime-softens the water. See softener vs. filter.
- It is not a substitute for under-sink RO if you want lower dissolved solids in drinking water. Many homes pair the two; see under-sink RO in Cutler Bay.
- It does not treat irrigation well water, which runs on a separate line to your sprinklers.
- It makes no contaminant claim beyond what the exact model is certified for. Always check the listing.
Sizing for a Cutler Bay house
Chloramine needs contact time with the media. A system that is too small for your home's flow lets more pass when several fixtures run at once. Jorge looks at:
- Number of bathrooms and people, which set peak flow.
- The size of the main line coming from the WASD meter.
- Where the equipment can go: many Cutler Bay single-family homes have the main line on an exterior wall or in the garage.
- Whether an irrigation line splits off before or after the point where the system would go.
He also checks your HOA's rules if equipment would be visible from the street.
The free chlorine weeks
Once a year WASD switches to free chlorine for about two weeks to cleanse the distribution system. Its 2026 notice set the conversion for September 28 through October 11 and said some customers may notice a chlorine taste or smell. A system designed for chloramine also handles free chlorine, so filtered taps should stay steady while the rest of the street notices the change.
Living Water's city water systems
Living Water uses equipment from Puronics, a water treatment manufacturer since 1947. For city water it offers the Clarius iGen and Goodspring whole-home systems; see the city water system page for details. Jorge recommends one only if your test and your goals support it. For how filtration compares with drinking-water-only systems, read whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.
Cost and next step
The price depends on system size, plumbing and options, so there is no honest number before the test. Jorge gives you an itemized quote after the free visit.
