Florida City's numbers
The city's 2024 report listed fluoride at 0.16 ppm too, and the 2025 report again lists 0.16 ppm. Fluoride occurs naturally in groundwater at low levels. For the city's current practice on adding fluoride, ask the Utilities office at 305-248-6855.
Statewide context: a Florida law effective July 1, 2025 led many utilities to stop adding fluoride. WASD, for example, stopped on June 6, 2025, and its main-system levels now range from 0.1 to 0.3 ppm from natural sources.
How home systems handle fluoride
| Method | Notes |
|---|---|
| Reverse osmosis | The most common home method; check for an NSF/ANSI 58 fluoride listing |
| Activated alumina | Used in some specialty filters |
| Standard carbon | Not designed for fluoride |
| Whole-home carbon | Aimed at chlorine taste and odor, not fluoride |
Whatever the method, point-of-use systems at the kitchen sink are the usual choice for fluoride, because drinking and cooking water is a small share of household use.
Certification is the whole story
A fluoride claim must be on the exact model's listing, with the reduction tested under NSF/ANSI 58 for RO. Membranes and filters must be replaced on schedule to keep that performance. Ask any seller to show the listing; Jorge will show you ours or tell you if a model does not carry that claim.
If you want fluoride for your family
Fluoride decisions for children are a conversation for your dentist or pediatrician. Some families who use RO for drinking water discuss fluoride with their dentist. We do not give health advice either way.
Fluoride and private wells
A private well near Florida City is not covered by the city's report. Fluoride in a well depends on the local groundwater, so a certified lab test is the way to know. If you treat a well with RO for drinking water, the same NSF/ANSI 58 listing rule applies.
Keeping the claim valid
RO performance declines as the membrane ages or pre-filters clog. Keep a simple log of filter changes, and ask for a dissolved-solids check at service visits so you can see the system still performs.
Where Jorge helps
He measures dissolved solids at your tap and from an RO faucet, explains the system and its listings, and leaves the health decision to you and your provider. See under-sink RO in Florida City. Call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.
