RO at the plant vs. RO at your sink
People ask why they would want RO when the Town of Highland Beach already uses it. The difference is what happens after the plant. To protect pipes and keep the water disinfected, the town adds acid and liquid lime for pH, hardness and alkalinity, phosphate as a corrosion inhibitor and chlorine as the disinfectant. Then the water travels through town mains, your building's risers and your unit's plumbing. An under-sink system handles taste, chlorine and anything picked up along that route.
Why it suits condo living
- It installs inside your kitchen cabinet, no changes to building plumbing.
- It uses its own faucet, so you choose when to drink filtered water.
- It stays with your unit and can be serviced without association work orders in most buildings.
Check your building's rules on drain connections and leak detection before installation. Jorge asks about this during the visit.
What Living Water installs
Living Water's alkaline reverse osmosis system is a multi-stage under-sink unit with a dedicated faucet, for homes, offices and apartments. The alkaline stage adds minerals back for taste after the membrane. See the compact alkaline RO system and alkaline vs. standard RO.
Sizing and space
Kitchen cabinets in older condos can be tight. Tank and tankless designs fit differently, and the drain and cold-water connections set where things go. Jorge checks the cabinet, water pressure and your daily use before recommending a model.
Contaminant claims
If you want RO for a specific contaminant, the system must be certified for that contaminant under NSF/ANSI 58. Check the exact model's listing rather than general marketing. The town's 2025 report shows its results meet standards; the reasons most people install RO here are taste, convenience and replacing bottled water.
Seasonal homes
If you spend part of the year away, ask how to shut the system off and restart it. Water left sitting in filters for months should be flushed before you drink it again, and some owners time filter changes to their return.
