Plant softening vs. home softening
WASD's 2025 Water Quality Report says water at the Orr plant receives lime treatment to reduce hardness before it is disinfected and filtered. Lime softening at a plant brings hardness down but does not remove it completely, so Kendall water can still leave spots and scale.
An ion-exchange softener at your home goes further. Resin beads swap calcium and magnesium for sodium or potassium, and the system regenerates itself with brine. The result is water that does not form scale in water heaters, faucets and shower glass.
