Stage by stage
| Stage | Job in Lighthouse Point |
|---|---|
| Sediment | Catches particles, for example after main flushing |
| Carbon | Reduces chloramine (3.36 ppm running average in the 2025 report) |
| RO membrane | Lowers total dissolved solids |
| Alkaline | Adds minerals back for taste |
| Faucet | Dedicated tap at the sink |
Why soft water helps
Hardness scales RO membranes over time. Pompano Beach softens Lighthouse Point's water to typically 1 to 2 grains, so a membrane on city water usually faces less scaling than one on a hard private well. Filter schedules still matter, especially the chloramine stage.
On a private well, the story changes: the well test decides what sediment, iron or softening stages the RO needs in front of it, so the membrane isn't overwhelmed.
Kitchens, wet bars and boats
An under-sink system fits the main kitchen, and some homes add one to a wet bar or outdoor kitchen. If you fill water containers for a boat at the dock, RO water from the kitchen is a practical source. Each location needs cabinet space, a cold line and a drain.
Specific contaminants need specific certification
RO models are certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for the contaminants listed on each model's certification. For a particular concern, whether lead, PFAS or fluoride, look up the exact model's listing. Living Water's systems are not presented as removing a specific contaminant without that check.
Before you buy
- Which carbon stage handles chloramine, and when is it changed?
- Tank or tankless? See tankless vs. tank RO.
- Faucet: existing hole or new drilling through stone?
- Fridge or ice maker connection?
- How will the system be restarted after months away?
- How much water goes to drain per gallon produced?
Condos and townhomes
Lighthouse Point also has condos and townhomes where whole-home equipment isn't practical. An under-sink system needs only cabinet space, a cold line and a drain connection; check your association's rules on plumbing work before scheduling.
