How the stages work on Margate water
- Sediment pre-filter catches particles, useful after hydrant flushing or main work.
- Carbon pre-filters reduce chloramine and chlorine so the membrane is not damaged.
- RO membrane reduces dissolved solids, including much of the sodium the report lists at 45.6 ppm.
- Post-filter and remineralization in the alkaline model, for taste and a higher pH.
See the compact alkaline RO page.
Who in Margate chooses RO
- Condo and townhome owners who cannot add a whole-home tank.
- Families that buy cases of bottled water every week.
- Homes that already have a whole-home filter and want a dedicated drinking water tap.
- Offices and gyms that want better water for staff and members.
RO is also handy for people who cook a lot: rice, soups, coffee and baby formula all start with water, and a dedicated faucet makes it easy to use filtered water every time.
Certifications to check
RO systems can be certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for specific contaminants such as lead, fluoride or PFOA/PFOS. Only the exact model on the listing counts, and only within its rated conditions. If a specific contaminant is your reason for buying, ask to see the listing before you decide, including for anything Jorge shows you.
Alkaline or standard RO
Standard RO water is low in minerals and slightly acidic; alkaline RO adds minerals back. It is a taste preference, not a health treatment. See alkaline vs. standard RO.
Installation checklist
- Cabinet space for the unit (tank or tankless).
- A faucet hole in the sink or countertop.
- A drain connection.
- Optional line to the refrigerator or ice maker.
- Adequate water pressure, which Jorge measures.
Most installs take a couple of hours. In condos, nothing changes outside the unit, which usually avoids association approvals. If your sink already has a soap dispenser or sprayer hole, it can sometimes be used for the RO faucet.
During the summer free-chlorine weeks
When Margate switches to free chlorine each summer (July 28 to August 20 in 2026), the carbon pre-filters handle it. Keeping pre-filters on schedule matters most during that window and the hydrant flushing that comes with it.
