Why chloramine shapes the system
The City's treatment ends with chloramine disinfection after aeration, lime softening and filtration. Chloramine is chlorine bound to ammonia; it is stable in the pipes and slow to react with ordinary carbon. A whole-home system for this water should have:
- Catalytic carbon or chloramine-specific media.
- Enough media volume for contact time when showers and appliances run together.
- A chloramine reduction claim on the exact model's NSF/ANSI 42 listing.
What it will not do
It will not soften water; the City already lime softens it. It does not replace a drinking water system certified for specific contaminants. For drinking and cooking, many families add under-sink RO.
The yearly free chlorine switch
Each year the City temporarily changes from chloramines to free chlorine as preventive maintenance, with hydrant flushing; the 2024 period ran from September 19 to October 18. The City's notice suggests customers with inline filters contact the equipment manufacturer for any precautions. A chloramine-rated whole-home system handles free chlorine as well, and Jorge can tell you if your system needs anything during those weeks. Flushing can also stir up sediment, which a good system's pre-filter catches.
Living Water's systems
Living Water installs Puronics whole-home systems for city water, the Clarius iGen and Goodspring, which Living Water describes as removing chloramine and chlorine. Puronics has made water treatment equipment since 1947. See the city water system page.
Fitting it to your house
- Main line: size and where it enters, often on an exterior wall near the meter.
- Shade and protection for outdoor installs.
- Irrigation split: keep sprinklers off the filter to save media.
- Bathrooms: they set peak flow and size.
North Lauderdale has a mix of single-family homes, villas and townhomes. Jorge checks the existing plumbing at the entry point during the visit, including the pipe material and any old shutoff valves that should be replaced while the line is open. In condos and apartments the main is shared, so under-sink RO is the usual answer.
Quote and financing
Jorge gives you an itemized quote after the free test. Living Water offers financing through its financing partners; you apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
