What reaches a North Miami main line
North Miami's tap water is a blend: about 60% from the city's Winson plant and about 40% bought from Miami-Dade WASD through several interconnects, according to the city's Water Plant page. Both are lime-softened Biscayne Aquifer water disinfected with chloramine.
- City system chloramine: 2.0 ppm, range 1.0 to 3.4 (2025 report).
- Miami-Dade main system chloramine: 2.5 ppm, range not detected to 4.0 (WASD's 2025 report).
- Hardness: reduced at both sources by lime softening; a tap test shows what remains.
Because the mix at your street depends on where the interconnects feed in, two homes in North Miami can taste slightly different.
What the system is made of
- Sediment protection for particles, useful after line work stirs up calcium carbonate sediment, which the city mentions in its FAQs.
- Catalytic carbon or chloramine-rated media, with enough volume for contact time at your peak flow.
- Optional softening only if your test calls for it.
Living Water's city water systems use Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring equipment, which Living Water describes as removing chloramine and chlorine.
North Miami houses and how sizing works
North Miami's housing ranges from single-family houses to townhomes and condo buildings. For a house, Jorge checks:
- How many bathrooms and how many showers can run at once.
- Where the main line enters and whether there is a protected spot for equipment.
- Whether the sprinkler line branches before the house.
- Incoming pressure and line size.
- Plumbing age. In an older house, the inside plumbing matters too, and the city asks owners to check their service line material for its inventory.
Whole-home, RO or both
If the chloramine bothers you in showers or laundry, whole-home makes sense. If only drinking water bothers you, an under-sink RO may be enough. Many owners do both. See whole-house vs. under-sink.
Upkeep and the free chlorine weeks
Ask how long the media lasts at your household's use and what service it needs. WASD switches its water to free chlorine for about two weeks a year; in 2026 that ran from September 28 through October 11, which affects the share of North Miami's water bought from the county. A chloramine-rated system handles free chlorine too.
Get it sized
Jorge tests at your tap, looks at your main line and gives you an itemized quote. Living Water offers financing through its financing partners; you apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
