Opa-locka's water is purchased from Miami-Dade WASD: Biscayne Aquifer groundwater that is softened, filtered, air-stripped and disinfected with chloramine, then delivered through the city's pipes. The city reports that it meets all federal and state requirements. A drinking water system is a choice about taste, the disinfectant, and certified reduction of anything specific you care about.

Choose by what matters to you
- Taste first: RO or a chloramine-rated carbon filter.
- A specific contaminant, such as lead, fluoride or PFOA/PFOS: a model certified for that exact claim under NSF/ANSI 53 or 58, verified in the certifier's listing.
- Renting: under-sink RO with the owner's permission, or a certified pitcher.
- Showers too: whole-home filtration plus RO in the kitchen.
Older plumbing
Opa-locka's report reminds residents that lead in drinking water comes mainly from service lines and home plumbing, and suggests running the tap 30 seconds to 2 minutes when water has sat for hours.
