What the city announced
The city's Fluoridation Discontinuation notice, published in English and Spanish, says Plantation would stop adding fluoride beginning July 1, 2025, to comply with Senate Bill 700. The notice encourages residents with questions about fluoride or dental health to consult a dentist, pediatrician or health care provider, and points to the CDC and the American Dental Association for more information. For water questions, the Utilities Department is at 954-797-2209.
What the 2025 report lists
The report's inorganic table shows fluoride at 0.71 ppm, with a range of 0.67 to 0.71, from July 2023 sampling, before fluoridation stopped. A footnote explains that, although adding fluoride was discontinued on July 1, 2025, trace levels may still be detected because fluoride occurs naturally in the source water. Future reports will reflect the change.
What the state law does
Senate Bill 700 took effect July 1, 2025. It prohibits additives in public water systems that are not used to remove contaminants or improve water quality, which includes additives used for health-related purposes such as fluoride.
Reducing fluoride at home
- Reverse osmosis is a common method. Check that the exact model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing includes fluoride.
- Pitchers and refrigerator filters are generally carbon-based and not designed for fluoride.
- Whole-home chloramine systems are not fluoride systems.

Wells and other sources
The city's fluoride decision applies to city water. A private or irrigation well on your property was never fluoridated by the city, and any fluoride in it is natural. Bottled water varies by brand; the label or the bottler's water quality report shows its fluoride content. If you want an exact number from your own tap or well, a certified laboratory can measure it.
Living Waters' position
None, for or against. Some households want less fluoride, others are fine with what is in the water now. Jorge explains what equipment is designed to do and leaves the health conversation to your dentist or doctor. If you decide to reduce fluoride, he can show you how an under-sink RO unit is installed and what its filter schedule looks like, with an itemized quote.
