Permits and rules in Broward
The Florida Department of Health in Broward County permits water wells, including irrigation wells. Wilton Manors' watering schedule, two days a week and never between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., applies to lawn irrigation. Irrigation lines must stay separated from drinking water plumbing; the city runs a backflow prevention program to protect its system.
Testing a drinking well
The Department of Health recommends testing private wells at least once a year for bacteria and nitrate, and again after flooding, repairs or a change in taste, color or smell. Designing treatment takes a broader test: iron, hardness, pH, hydrogen sulfide and any specific concern you have. Jorge's free in-home screening covers the everyday parameters; bacteria and nitrate go to a certified lab.
How a well system is configured
Living Water configures well water systems from the test. Depending on results, stages can include sediment filtration, iron and sulfur treatment, softening and reverse osmosis at the kitchen. For any contaminant reduction claim, the exact model must be certified for that contaminant. See city vs. well water treatment.
Near the river
The Middle River wraps the city, and stormwater and high tides are part of life here. If flooding reaches a wellhead, test the well before using it again. For sprinkler wells, the practical concern after a flood is usually staining and odor, not drinking water.
Questions to ask before buying well equipment
- Which test results is each stage solving?
- Are the iron, sulfur and hardness numbers from a lab or a field test?
- How is the system backwashed or regenerated, and where does that water drain?
- What maintenance does each stage need, and how often?
- For any contaminant claim, which certification lists this exact model?
Clear answers to those questions are a good sign. See well water treatment cost in Florida. Keep a simple log of test dates and results; it makes future decisions, and any sale of the house, easier.
