What a whole-home system is for here
Wilton Manors water is lime-softened and filtered by Fort Lauderdale before it reaches the city's pipes, and it meets drinking water standards. People who install whole-home filtration here usually want three things:
- No chemical smell in a hot shower.
- Water that tastes the same from every tap, not only the kitchen.
- Less disinfectant on skin and hair, which is a comfort preference, not a medical one.
If you only care about drinking water, an under-sink RO system may be enough.
Why chloramine needs the right media
Chloramine is chlorine bound to ammonia. It lasts longer in the pipes, which is why utilities use it, and it reacts more slowly with ordinary carbon. A whole-home tank needs enough of the right media, usually catalytic carbon, and enough contact time at your highest flow. Ask for the exact model's listing under NSF/ANSI 42 and check that chloramine reduction is on it. More in the chloramine filter guide for Wilton Manors.
Sizing for Wilton Manors houses
Much of the city is mid-century single-family homes on small lots, many updated with extra bathrooms. Sizing follows:
- Bathrooms and peak flow: two showers and a washing machine at once is the real test.
- Where the main enters: often an exterior wall or a garage; it decides the installation layout.
- Space for a bypass valve: so water keeps running during service.
- Old plumbing: galvanized sections can add rust after the filter, which a filter at the main cannot fix.
Timing around the plant change
Fort Lauderdale began supplying Wilton Manors from its new Prospect Lake Clean Water Center in September 2026, and the city warned of temporary changes in taste, color or cloudiness. A whole-home filter for chloramine still makes sense after the change, because the city has not announced a change of disinfectant. Jorge can test now and again after the transition so you know your system matches the new water.
What Living Water installs
Living Water's city water systems use Puronics equipment, including the Clarius iGen and Goodspring lines, which Living Water describes as removing chlorine and chloramine. Many households add an alkaline RO faucet in the kitchen. See the city water system page and what drives the cost. Living Water offers financing through its financing partners; you apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you.
