What the city reports
From the City of Boca Raton Utility Services Department:
- The 2025 report states the city does not add fluoride to its water treatment process.
- The fluoride that is present is naturally occurring in the Biscayne Aquifer, the source for the city's 52 wells.
- The report lists a fluoride result of 0.166 ppm from April 2025 sampling, and the city's Water Quality page lists a typical range of 0.1 to 0.2 mg/L.
Both figures are far below the 4 ppm regulatory maximum the report lists.
Florida's 2025 law
In 2025 the Florida Legislature passed SB 700, which prohibits adding to a public water supply any additive that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality; it took effect July 1, 2025. Boca Raton was already not adding fluoride, so its practice did not change. Other utilities in South Florida did change, which is why you may see different fluoride stories in neighboring cities.
If you are on county water
Some homes with Boca Raton addresses are served by Palm Beach County Water Utilities instead of the city. Its numbers come from its own report, so check which utility bills you before comparing. Find your provider at pbcwater.com.
If you still want to reduce fluoride
- Reverse osmosis is the most common household method for reducing fluoride at the kitchen tap. See under-sink RO in Boca Raton.
- Standard carbon filters are generally not designed for fluoride. Check the listing.
- Look for the exact model's certification for fluoride reduction, typically under NSF/ANSI 58 for RO systems.
An alkaline RO system also adds minerals back after the membrane; that changes taste and pH, not fluoride.
Other ways fluoride reaches a glass
If you are tracking fluoride, tap water is only one source. Some bottled waters contain it, and so do many toothpastes. Bottled water labels and manufacturers can tell you more. For tap water, the Boca Raton annual report is the official record and is posted by July 1 each year at myboca.us, so check the newest edition when it comes out, since numbers vary slightly from year to year.
Questions about health
Whether fluoride matters for your family's health is a question for your doctor or dentist. What Jorge can do is show you what is in your tap water and explain how RO works, with no pressure either way.
Free test
Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974. Jorge tests chloramine, hardness and dissolved solids at your tap and can show the before-and-after of an RO system's dissolved-solids reduction if you have one.
