What the reports say
The city's report describes the District 2A process as softening, filtration, chloramine disinfection, and then fluoride added to the finished water. Its inorganic contaminants table lists fluoride at 0.857 ppm (July 2023), against the 4.0 ppm federal maximum. Broward County's own online report lists the same 0.857 ppm figure for District 2A, in a table whose sampling dates span July 2023 to July 2025.
The 4.0 ppm figure is the federal maximum contaminant level; the table also mentions the 0.7 ppm optimum level used when fluoride was added for dental health.
Florida's 2025 law
SB 700 prohibits the use of any additive to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality. Report text about adding fluoride may describe the process before the law took effect. For current practice at District 2A, ask Broward County Water and Wastewater Services at 954-831-3250. Homes south of Coconut Creek Parkway are on Margate water; Margate's report lists 0.59 ppm from a July 2023 sample.
Options if you want less fluoride
- Reverse osmosis: a common method. Look for an NSF/ANSI 58 listing that includes fluoride for the exact model. See under-sink RO in Coconut Creek.
- Carbon filters and pitchers: generally not designed for fluoride.
- Whole-home: rarely used for fluoride; Living Water's city water systems are described for chloramine and chlorine.
RO reduces many dissolved minerals at once, which is why some people choose alkaline RO that adds minerals back for taste.
A neutral note
We do not take a position on fluoride and health. Questions about fluoride and teeth or health belong with your dentist or doctor. This page explains what the reports and the law say, and what filtration options exist.
Getting a precise number
If fluoride is your main concern, a certified lab gives a precise result for your tap. If you are on a private well, only a test of that well tells you its fluoride level. Jorge can help you read results and decide whether a drinking water system makes sense.
