What PFAS are
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been used in non-stick cookware, stain- and water-resistant fabrics, food packaging and some firefighting foams. They break down very slowly, which is why they show up at low levels in water across the country. EPA explains its drinking water rules for PFAS on its PFAS pages.
Where to find the data for your home
- Broward County's 2025 Water Quality Report (online at broward.org) has an unregulated contaminants table with a District 2A column, from March and April 2025 sampling, listing PFAS such as PFBA, PFBS, PFOA and PFOS. A separate table shows PFAS results for other County districts alongside EPA's 2029 limits.
- City of Margate's 2025 report, for homes south of Coconut Creek Parkway, lists nine PFAS compounds from August 2024 sampling.
- EPA's UCMR 5 data is published by water system.
Coconut Creek's own 2025 report focuses on regulated contaminants; the County's report is where the PFAS detail is.
How to read the tables
- Check the unit: ug/L (the same as ppb). One part per trillion is one-thousandth of that.
- Find the column for the system that serves you; Coconut Creek's water comes from District 2A.
- EPA's PFAS limits have future compliance dates and are based on running annual averages, not single samples.

Choosing a PFAS filter
- Look for NSF/ANSI 53 (filters) or NSF/ANSI 58 (reverse osmosis) certification that lists PFOA and PFOS reduction.
- Match the exact model number on the certifier's listing.
- Replace cartridges on schedule; claims only hold within rated capacity.
Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. Jorge will tell you to check any model's certification before buying, including anything he shows you.
Testing
PFAS testing needs a certified lab using EPA methods. Jorge's free screening covers chloramine, hardness, TDS, pH and iron, not PFAS. See home screening vs. lab analysis. On a private well, a lab test is the only way to know.
If you order a lab test, ask the lab which EPA method it uses and its reporting limits, so results are comparable with the County's tables.
