What the report says
The 2025 report carries a section titled "Cooper City Stops Adding Fluoride to Water, in Accordance With New Florida Law." It explains that the samples behind the fluoride figure were taken before fluoride was removed, which is why fluoride still appears in this year's table. The 2024 report, by contrast, described fluoride being added for dental health at about 0.7 ppm.
The Florida Senate's summary of the law says it prohibits any additive to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality.
Natural fluoride
Groundwater contains some fluoride naturally, and utilities continue to test for and report it. The next report, covering a full year without added fluoride, will show what remains in Cooper City's water after membrane treatment.
Keep in mind that Cooper City's membrane softening already reduces many dissolved minerals before the water leaves the plant, so the remaining natural level may be low. The report is the place to check, rather than assuming either way.
Reducing fluoride at home
- Reverse osmosis: the most common method, at a single kitchen tap. See under-sink RO in Cooper City.
- Activated alumina: another media used for fluoride.
- Carbon filters: generally not designed for fluoride.
Check the exact model's certification for fluoride reduction before buying.
RO also reduces other dissolved minerals, so many people add a remineralization stage for taste. Living Water's under-sink system is alkaline RO with that stage built in.
Neutral on the debate
We take no position for or against fluoride. This page reports what the city and the law say and how home treatment works. For questions about fluoride and your family's health, ask your dentist or doctor.
One tap is usually enough
People who want less fluoride usually care about drinking and cooking water, so a kitchen RO faucet covers it. Whole-home fluoride treatment is uncommon. If chlorine in the shower also bothers you, that is a separate whole-home filtration decision.
For a household that drinks mostly filtered water, one RO faucet plus a fridge connection covers drinking water, ice and cooking.
