CUTLER BAY · WATER TESTING

Home Water Testing in Cutler Bay

Jorge Canela offers a free in-home water test in Cutler Bay. He measures what affects comfort and equipment choice at your tap, such as chlorine or chloramine, hardness, dissolved solids, pH and iron, explains the results in plain words, and recommends only what fits. WASD's annual Water Quality Report covers the regulated contaminants for the whole system; a certified lab handles anything beyond a screening, such as bacteria in a well or PFAS.

What the free test measures

  • Total and free chlorine, which tells you how much chloramine reaches your tap.
  • Hardness, to decide whether a softener is worth discussing at all.
  • Total dissolved solids (TDS), useful for comparing tap and RO water.
  • pH.
  • Iron, especially if you have orange stains or a well.

Jorge tests at the kitchen and often at an outside tap, so you see whether anything changes inside the house.

How it fits with WASD's report

WASD's 2025 Water Quality Report is the official record for Cutler Bay's supply: the Orr plant, chloramine at 2.5 ppm on the main system, fluoride no longer added since June 6, 2025, and the full regulated-contaminant table. It is posted on miamidade.gov, and WASD answers water quality questions at 786-552-4181.

A home test does not replace it. It answers a different question: what is coming out of your tap after your pipes, heater and any existing equipment.

When to use a certified lab

  • Private drinking well: the Florida Department of Health says well owners are responsible for their own water and should test every year. Bacteria and nitrate need a certified lab.
  • PFAS: requires a certified lab using EPA methods.
  • Lead at the tap: WASD's report says to contact its lab offices at 786-552-4181 or 786-552-4738 for lead tap sampling data, and its service line inventory is at miamidade.gov/knowyourpipes.

What happens during the visit

  1. Jorge asks what you notice: taste, smell, spots, skin, stains.
  2. He tests at your taps and explains each number.
  3. He looks at your plumbing, heater and irrigation setup.
  4. If something fits, he explains the options and gives you an itemized quote. If nothing is needed, he says so.

Good times to test in Cutler Bay

  • After moving in, especially to an older home or one with an irrigation well.
  • When the taste or smell changes. Note that WASD's annual free chlorine weeks, September 28 to October 11 in 2026, change the smell on purpose.
  • Before buying any treatment system, so the quote is built on your water.
