What the system is up against
Deerfield Beach's plant already does heavy lifting: lime softening, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis, then blending. What's added at the end is the disinfectant. Samples in 2025 ranged from 0.5 to 3.9 ppm. That residual is the taste in a glass of tap water and the smell in a hot shower, and it's what a whole-home system targets.
Living Water's whole-home city water systems use Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring equipment, described as removing chloramine and chlorine. Ask for the exact model and its documentation.
Because the plant blends three processes, the water's character is consistent across the city, but the disinfectant level at your tap still varies with location and use.
The free chlorine weeks
Every year the city runs a free chlorination period, typically two to four weeks, to clear biofilm from distribution pipes. In 2025 it ran September 4 to 24. Free chlorine is stronger and easier to taste. A whole-home system designed for chloramine handles chlorine too, so the change is far less noticeable at the tap, but expect hydrant flushing nearby to stir up sediment, which a sediment stage helps with.
Sizing
| Factor | Why |
|---|---|
| Bathrooms and peak flow | Avoids pressure drop with two showers running |
| Chloramine at your tap | Media type and contact time |
| Household size | Media life |
| Main line location | Installation scope |
Filter plus RO
Whole-home filtration reduces chloramine but doesn't lower total dissolved solids. For the lowest-TDS drinking water, add under-sink alkaline RO in the kitchen. See whole-house filtration vs. RO.
Before any plumbing work
Deerfield Beach's service line inventory, at www.dfb.city/waterline, found no lead service lines and shows recorded materials by address. A whole-home chloramine filter isn't a lead treatment device; for lead, use a filter certified for lead reduction and check its listing.
Installation questions to ask
- Where will equipment sit, and is there shade and drainage?
- Is there a bypass valve so the house keeps water during service?
- Does the system backwash, and where does that water go?
- How long does the media last at my chloramine level and use?
- What's in writing about service and warranty?
