What Doral homeowners usually want fixed
Doral's water arrives treated to meet standards. The issue most people want solved is the disinfectant itself: a chemical smell in a hot shower, a taste in coffee or iced tea, and a smell some notice on skin and hair. Because chloramine is designed to last through the pipes, it is still there at your tap. A whole-home system removes it at the point of entry so the whole house gets filtered water.
Built for chloramine and the chlorine switch
WASD disinfects with chloramine, then temporarily switches to free chlorine while it flushes lines countywide. The City of Doral shared a notice for one of these periods, September 9 to 22, 2024. A filter designed only for chlorine may not handle chloramine well, so ask for a system designed for both.
Living Water's city water systems use Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring equipment, which Living Water describes as removing chlorine and chloramine. Details are on the city water system page.
Townhomes, HOAs and gated communities
Much of Doral's housing sits in planned communities, many with homeowners associations. Before installing equipment outside, check:
- Whether your HOA has rules on exterior equipment, screening or placement.
- Where your main line enters. In some townhomes it enters in a garage or utility closet, which makes a clean indoor installation possible.
- Whether units share any plumbing with neighbors.
In a condo building you usually cannot reach the main line; under-sink RO is the better fit there.
Newer homes still benefit
A newer house does not change the water coming from the utility. New plumbing and appliances are a good reason to filter, though: keeping chloramine taste out of the whole house from the start, and knowing from a test whether scale is something to plan for. WASD's Hialeah and Preston plants soften the water during treatment, so many Doral homes on city water do not need a softener. See water softeners in Doral.
