County membranes vs. your membrane
PBCWUD's 2025 report describes three treatment approaches across its plants: lime softening with ion exchange, filtration, and nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. The report does not map plants to neighborhoods, so a Greenacres tap may receive water from one process or a mix. After treatment, chloramine is added for the trip through the pipes.
A home RO system works at the end of the line, on the water you actually drink. A TDS reading at the regular tap and then at the RO faucet shows the difference in plain numbers.
What the Living Water system includes
- Multi-stage filtration: sediment and carbon pre-filters, the RO membrane and a post-filter.
- An alkaline remineralization stage for taste.
- A dedicated faucet at the sink.
- A compact footprint for home, office, apartment or gym. See the compact alkaline RO system.
A fit for villas, townhomes and rentals
In townhomes, villas and apartments, main-line equipment is often not practical. An under-sink system needs only cabinet space, a cold-water connection and a drain connection. Check lease terms or association rules first.
Is it worth it on treated water?
That depends on what you want. PBCWUD's water is treated and tested; RO does not fix something the county left behind. It gives you drinking water with less chloramine taste and much lower dissolved solids, which many households prefer for drinking, coffee, tea and ice. If you already like your tap water, you may not need it, and Jorge will say so.
Certification matters
If you want RO for a specific contaminant, the exact model must be certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for it. Check the model number on the certifier's listing. Living Water does not make contaminant-removal claims beyond a model's certification.
Pressure, space and upkeep
RO membranes need adequate water pressure; Jorge measures it along with TDS, chloramine and pH. Tight cabinets may suit a tankless design; see tankless vs. tank RO. Pre-filters and post-filters are replaced on a schedule and the membrane lasts longer; ask for the schedule in writing. See RO operating costs.
