Comfort, not medicine
Living Water does not diagnose or treat skin. Dryness has many causes: hot showers, soaps, sun, salt water from the beach, air conditioning and health conditions. A dermatologist is the right person for persistent symptoms. We measure the water so you know whether it is part of the picture.
Why chloramines come first here
Hallandale Beach blends lime-softened and nanofiltered water, and its 2025 report lists total dissolved solids at just 79 ppm. With minerals that modest, soap residue from hardness is less likely to be the issue. The disinfectant is still there by design: chloramines, at a running average of 2.646 ppm. Hot showers release more of the smell, and that is what many people notice.
Living near the beach adds its own factors: salt water, sun and sunscreen all affect how skin feels after a shower, which is one more reason not to blame the tap without measuring.
Options by result
| Test shows | Consider |
|---|---|
| Chloramines are the main factor (house) | Whole-home filtration |
| Chloramines are the main factor (condo) | A certified shower filter; ask about unit-level options |
| Measurable hardness residue | A softener, only if justified |
| Nothing stands out | Habits, and a talk with a dermatologist |
In a house, the whole-home row is the most common outcome; in a high-rise, the shower filter row is usually as far as unit plumbing allows.
Shower-head filters
In a condo, a shower-head filter is often the practical step. Check what the exact model is certified to reduce, because chloramine needs media designed for it, and replace the cartridge on schedule.
If a shower filter helps, it suggests the disinfectant is part of what you notice; in a house, a whole-home system extends that change to every bathroom.
Habits many people find helpful
- Warm rather than hot water, and shorter showers
- Rinse off beach salt and sunscreen with gentle cleansers
- Moisturize right after drying
- Clean shower heads so the spray stays gentle
Cooler showers also release less chloramine into the air, which many people find more comfortable on its own.
