Why chloramine is the target here
The City treats its water with lime softening and nanofiltration, which already lower hardness and dissolved solids; the 2025 report lists total dissolved solids at 79 ppm. What is left that people notice is the disinfectant. The report's chloramines section explains that chlorine and ammonia combine to form chloramines, which last longer in pipes than chlorine alone. That persistence is good for the distribution system and is also why the smell can reach your shower.
What it changes at home
- Showers and baths without a chemical smell
- Bathroom sinks, kitchen tap, laundry and dishwasher on the same water
- Ice maker and fridge dispenser lines
- A protective first stage if you also install RO
It does not change the City's treatment, and it is not a softener.
Houses, townhomes and condos
Whole-home systems are installed on the main line where water enters a single dwelling. That makes them a natural fit for Hallandale Beach's single-family houses and many townhomes. In a high-rise condo, the building's plumbing usually makes a unit-level whole-home system impractical, and under-sink RO is the common answer. Jorge will tell you honestly which applies to your home.
Townhomes fall in between: some have their own meter and main-line entry, which makes a whole-home system straightforward, while others share plumbing that limits options. The visit settles it.
The systems Living Water uses
For city water, Living Water uses Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring systems, which it describes as removing chlorine and chloramine. Jorge will show you the specifications and service schedule for the model he recommends. For any contaminant claim beyond taste and odor, look up the exact model's certification listing; for chloramine, NSF/ANSI 42 with chloramine named is the standard to look for.
What Jorge checks before quoting
- Where the main line enters and how much space is around it
- Pipe size and material
- Whether sprinklers are tied into the City line, so that branch can bypass the filter
- Drain and power for backwashing models
- Number of bathrooms and people, which set the flow
Upkeep and next step
Ask how often media or cartridges are replaced at your water use, whether the system backwashes, and what service visits include. If you keep fish, note the City's reminder that chloramines are toxic to fish and aquariums need water treated for them. For pricing factors see water filtration cost in Hallandale Beach.
