What you are filtering in Hialeah Gardens
Your water is treated by Miami-Dade WASD, mostly at the Hialeah and John E. Preston plants that serve the area north of SW 8 Street, and arrives through Hialeah Gardens' distribution system. Three things shape a whole-home choice here:
- Chloramine: WASD's 2025 report lists 2.5 ppm in the main system, with a range up to 4.0.
- Natural organic material: the city's 2025 report says it can occasionally give the water a light yellow tint.
- Hardness after softening: the county lime-softens the water, but some mineral content remains, which a test at your tap measures.
How a whole-home system is put together
- Sediment stage catches sand and particles, which matters after line work stirs up the pipes.
- Carbon stage designed for chloramine, usually catalytic carbon, with enough media and contact time for your peak flow.
- Optional softening only if your test shows hardness worth treating.
Living Water's city water systems use Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring equipment, which Living Water describes as removing chloramine and chlorine. See the city water system page.
Sizing for local houses
A three-bedroom house with two bathrooms and an irrigation system on a separate line needs a different setup than a townhome where the main line enters behind a shared wall. Jorge looks at:
- Number of bathrooms and how many showers can run at once.
- Where the main line enters and whether there is room and a drain nearby.
- Whether sprinklers branch off before the house, so you are not filtering lawn water.
- Your water pressure and the size of the incoming line.
Whole-home or kitchen only?
If your only complaint is drinking water taste, an under-sink RO may be all you need. If you notice the chloramine in the shower, on your skin or in laundry, a whole-home system is the better fit. Many households pair the two. The whole-house vs. under-sink comparison walks through it.
Before you buy
- Ask whether the carbon media is rated for chloramine, not only chlorine.
- Ask how the system handles WASD's yearly free chlorine weeks (a chloramine-rated system also handles free chlorine).
- Ask what maintenance the system needs and how often.
- Get an itemized quote. Jorge gives one after the free test. Living Water also offers financing through its financing partners with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you.
