Why Hialeah homeowners add whole-home filtration
Hialeah's water is treated to meet drinking water standards before it reaches you. What remains is the disinfectant that keeps it protected in the pipes, and that is what most people notice: a pool-like smell in a hot shower, a taste in coffee, or a scent on freshly washed clothes.
A whole-home system addresses that at every tap at once. It is the difference between filtering one glass of water and filtering the whole house.
One system, two disinfectants
The City of Hialeah's 2025 Water Quality Report shows results for two kinds of water: the water purchased from Miami-Dade County, disinfected with chloramine, and the water from the Hialeah Reverse Osmosis plant, disinfected with chlorine. A Hialeah whole-home system should be designed for both.
Living Water's city water systems use Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring equipment, which Living Water describes as removing chlorine and chloramine. Details are on the city water system page, and our chloramine filter guide explains why the difference matters.
Installing on a Hialeah house
In many South Florida houses the main water line enters along an exterior wall, which often makes a point-of-entry installation straightforward. Every house is different, though. Things Jorge looks at during the visit:
- Where the line enters, and whether there is room for the equipment plus a bypass valve.
- Whether additions or converted spaces were plumbed separately and need to be included.
- A protected, accessible spot for an outdoor installation.
- Whether a drain or outlet is needed for the system you choose.
Duplexes, rentals and multi-unit properties
If you own a property with more than one unit on a single water line, one whole-home system can treat all of them. If each unit has its own line, or you rent and cannot modify the plumbing, under-sink RO in each kitchen may be the practical choice. Jorge can map out the options for your property.
Before you buy: a short checklist
- Confirm the system is built for chloramine and chlorine.
- Ask how it is sized to your household's water use and number of bathrooms.
- For any specific contaminant, check that the exact model is certified for it under the relevant NSF/ANSI standard.
- Get the maintenance schedule in writing.
- Know whether you also need a softener; often you do not on city water. See water softeners in Hialeah.
