Why RO in a town with membrane-treated water
It is fair to ask. Seacoast's plant uses nanofiltration and low-pressure reverse osmosis, then adds chloramines so the water stays disinfected through about 500 miles of mains. Your under-sink system works at the other end: it removes the chloramine taste right before you drink and treats water after it has passed through your building's own plumbing.
For most Lake Park households the reason is simple: they want water that tastes good without buying bottles.
How a multi-stage alkaline RO works
- Sediment and carbon prefilters catch particles and reduce chlorine and chloramine, which also protects the membrane.
- The RO membrane reduces dissolved solids.
- A storage tank or direct flow feeds the dedicated faucet.
- An alkaline stage adds minerals back for taste.
Compare alkaline vs. standard RO.
Fitting RO in Lake Park homes and condos
Jorge checks cabinet space, a cold water supply, a drain connection and a spot for the faucet on the sink or countertop. In older homes he also checks the shut-off valve under the sink, which can be stiff or worn. Condo owners near the harbor often choose RO because it needs no changes to the building's main line.
Contaminants and certification
If you have a specific concern, such as lead from old home plumbing, choose a system certified for that contaminant under the relevant NSF/ANSI standard (58 for RO) and check the exact model's listing. Seacoast's 2025 lead results were low across the system, but your own fixtures and pipes are not covered by the utility's sampling.
RO for offices, the marina district and rentals
Living Water's alkaline RO units are sized for homes, offices, apartments and gyms. Small offices in town often put one in a break room instead of a bottled-water cooler, and renters can ask a landlord about an under-sink unit because it does not touch the main line. In every case, check that the system is listed for the contaminants you care about, and that someone is responsible for filter changes.
If the property is on a private well, RO is usually one part of a larger setup that first handles iron and sulfur; see well water in Lake Park.
Maintenance and next steps
Prefilters and the membrane have replacement schedules that depend on your water and use. See RO cost drivers in Lake Park and RO maintenance costs.
