What changed in Florida in 2025
In 2025 the Florida Legislature passed SB 700, which prohibits adding to a public water supply any additive that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality. It took effect July 1, 2025. The Senate's bill summary explains the change. We do not take a position on fluoride; this page is about the facts and your options.
How fluoride is reduced at home
- Reverse osmosis: the most common home method for fluoride. Look for NSF/ANSI 58 certification that lists fluoride reduction for that exact model.
- Activated alumina: used in some dedicated fluoride filters; check certification and replacement schedules.
- Standard carbon filters: generally not designed for fluoride.

Do you need a fluoride filter?
With the city's reported level already low, many households who ask about fluoride are really after better-tasting drinking water or lower dissolved solids overall. An under-sink alkaline RO covers that. If fluoride specifically matters to you, the certification check is what counts. Questions about fluoride and health belong with your doctor or dentist.
Private wells
Private wells are not covered by the city's report. A certified lab test shows the well's natural fluoride level. See well water in Lake Worth Beach.
If you are choosing an RO system for this reason
Ask three things: does the exact model carry a certification that lists fluoride reduction, how often are the membrane and filters replaced, and does the alkaline stage change anything you care about. RO systems remove many dissolved minerals along with fluoride, which is why Living Water's units add minerals back for taste. Compare in alkaline vs. standard RO. Lake Worth Beach also serves areas outside city limits, so check that the city's report is the one for your address.
