What PFAS are
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been used in non-stick cookware, stain- and water-resistant fabrics, food packaging and some firefighting foams. They break down very slowly. EPA's PFAS drinking water pages explain which compounds the federal rule covers and when utilities must comply.
Where to find Lantana's PFAS data
- EPA's UCMR 5 data finder: UCMR 5 covered public water systems serving more than 3,300 people, and EPA publishes results by system name. Search for the Town of Lantana's system.
- The town: call the Utilities office at 561-540-5750, the contact listed in the Annual Water Quality Report, and ask for its UCMR 5 results.
- Neighboring systems: if your bill comes from Lake Worth Beach instead, that city's 2025 report includes its own PFAS table. See PFAS in Lake Worth Beach.
Choosing a PFAS filter
- Look for NSF/ANSI 53 (filters) or NSF/ANSI 58 (reverse osmosis) certification that specifically lists PFOA and PFOS reduction.
- Match the exact model number on the certifier's listing.
- Replace cartridges on schedule; certified performance applies only within rated capacity.
EPA has a page on identifying filters certified to reduce PFAS. Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. Jorge will tell you to check any model's certification before buying, including anything he shows you.
Reading results when you get them
UCMR 5 results are reported per compound, often in parts per trillion or micrograms per liter, with a minimum reporting level below which a result shows as not detected. Note the units before comparing anything. Compare detected values with EPA's current limits, which EPA explains on its PFAS pages. A detection is information, not a verdict, and the town is the right place to ask what its numbers mean.
Testing for PFAS
PFAS testing requires a certified lab using EPA methods. Jorge's free screening covers chloramine, hardness, TDS, pH and iron, not PFAS. He can help you read whatever data you find. See home screening vs. lab analysis.
Private wells
If your property uses a private well, no utility data covers it. A certified lab is the only way to know whether PFAS are present. See well water in Lantana. For a plain-language walk through your data, call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.
