What changes at the RO faucet
Lantana's plant does not use reverse osmosis; it aerates, disinfects with chloramines, filters and adds zinc orthophosphate. That makes a home RO system a bigger change here than in cities that already run membrane plants. The membrane removes most of the dissolved minerals that make up TDS, and the carbon pre-filters deal with chloramine taste before the water reaches it. A TDS reading at the regular tap and then at the RO faucet shows the difference.
What the Living Water system includes
- Multi-stage filtration: sediment and carbon pre-filters, the RO membrane and a post-filter.
- An alkaline remineralization stage for taste.
- A dedicated faucet at the sink.
- A compact footprint for home, office, apartment or gym. See the compact alkaline RO system.
Condos along the water
In many condo buildings, main-line equipment is not an option. An under-sink RO needs only cabinet space, a cold-water connection and a drain connection. Check your association's rules before installation. In older buildings, Jorge also looks at the condition of the shutoff valve under the sink.
Is it worth it if the water already meets standards?
That is a fair question, and the answer depends on what you want. Lantana's water is treated and tested; RO does not fix a problem the town has left behind. What it does is give you drinking water with less chloramine taste and much lower dissolved solids, which many households prefer for drinking, coffee and ice. If you are happy with your tap water now, you may not need it.
Certification matters
If you want an RO system for a specific contaminant, the exact model must be certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for that contaminant. Check the model number on the certifier's listing. Living Water does not make contaminant-removal claims beyond a model's certification.
Pressure and placement
RO membranes need enough water pressure to work well. Jorge measures it during the test, along with TDS, chloramine and pH. If pressure is low, a booster pump may be needed. If the kitchen cabinet is tight, a tankless design may fit better. See tankless vs. tank RO.
Upkeep to plan for
Pre-filters and post-filters are replaced on a schedule, and the membrane lasts longer. Ask for the schedule in writing. See RO maintenance and operating costs and best drinking water system for a Lantana home.
