LAUDERDALE LAKES · FLUORIDE FILTER

Fluoride Water Filter in Lauderdale Lakes

Broward County's 2025 Water Quality Report lists fluoride in District 1, the system serving Lauderdale Lakes, at 0.845 ppm, from sampling between July 2023 and July 2025. Florida's SB 700, effective July 1, 2025, prohibits additives to public water that are not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality; ask the county about its current practice. Fluoride also occurs naturally. To reduce it at home, reverse osmosis is the common method; check the model's NSF/ANSI 58 fluoride claim.

The number and where it comes from

The county's inorganic contaminants table shows fluoride for 1A at 0.845 ppm, against a maximum of 4. The sampling window runs from July 2023 to July 2025, so it reflects mostly the period before the state law took effect. For comparison, the districts the county supplies with City of Hollywood water show 0.12 ppm. The table's standard note describes fluoride as both naturally occurring and a water additive.

What the state law says

The Florida Senate's bill summary for SB 700 (2025) states that it prohibits the use of any additive to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality, effective July 1, 2025. Utilities across Florida have responded to it. For Broward County's current practice in District 1, call Water and Wastewater Services at 954-831-3250.

Some fluoride is natural

Biscayne Aquifer groundwater carries a little natural fluoride, and private wells in the area can too. Utilities continue to test and report it whether or not they add any, so a future report showing a lower number, but not zero, would be expected.

Home options

  • Reverse osmosis: the common method for reducing fluoride at a kitchen tap. Confirm fluoride is on the exact model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing.
  • Pitchers and fridge filters: generally not designed for fluoride.
  • Whole-home carbon systems: target chloramine, not fluoride.

Living Water's under-sink alkaline RO adds minerals back after the membrane for taste. See alkaline vs. standard RO.

No position on fluoride

Some households want less fluoride, others want to keep it. We do not make health claims either way. Ask your dentist or doctor about fluoride and your family; we explain what the report shows and what equipment can do.
