A short explainer
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) were used for decades in coatings and products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease and water. They persist in the environment. In April 2024 EPA set national limits for several PFAS in drinking water, including 4 parts per trillion each for PFOA and PFOS, with compliance deadlines in the future. EPA's PFAS pages explain the rule.
Finding the numbers for Lighthouse Point
Lighthouse Point doesn't publish its own water data because it doesn't treat its own water. Open the Pompano Beach 2025 report and find the Voluntary Monitoring table. It lists quarterly 2025 results for PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA and a PFAS Hazard Index, in nanograms per liter, beside each MCL. Questions go to the Pompano Beach Utilities Lab Manager at 954-545-7018. EPA also publishes UCMR 5 results by water system.
Each row lists sampling dates, the average detected, the range, the MCL and the MCLG. The Hazard Index combines several PFAS into a single figure compared against 1. If a row is confusing, ask the lab or ask Jorge to read it with you.
What the supplier says it's doing
Pompano Beach's PFAS page says its water meets all current state and federal requirements and lists its steps: researching treatment technology, planning an expansion of its newer membrane plant to replace the aging lime softening plant, joining litigation against PFAS manufacturers, and pursuing grants for the new plant. Those steps affect the water Lighthouse Point receives too.
Choosing a home filter
- NSF/ANSI 53 (filters) or NSF/ANSI 58 (RO) certification that lists PFOA and PFOS reduction.
- The exact model number on the certifier's listing.
- Replacement on schedule; performance applies within rated capacity.
Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. Verify any model's certification, including anything Jorge shows you.
Testing
PFAS testing needs a certified lab using EPA methods. Jorge's free in-home test covers chloramine, hardness, TDS, pH and iron, not PFAS, but he'll walk through the Pompano Beach table with you. See home screening vs. lab analysis. Private wells aren't covered by any utility data; see well water.
