Stage by stage
- Sediment pre-filter: catches particles, including sediment stirred up during WASD's yearly hydrant flushing.
- Carbon pre-filter: reduces chlorine and chloramine to protect the membrane.
- RO membrane: reduces dissolved salts and minerals.
- Post-filter and alkaline stage: polishes taste and adds minerals back.
- Dedicated faucet at the sink.
Why it suits Miami Lakes water
WASD's northern plants soften and air-strip the water, then add chloramine; the 2025 report lists sodium up to 33 ppm and chloramine averaging 2.5 ppm in the main system. RO reduces dissolved solids like sodium at the drinking tap and its pre-filters handle chloramine, so the water from the RO faucet tastes noticeably different from the regular tap.
Because the northern plants also air-strip volatile organic compounds and soften the water before it reaches you, the RO's job here is mostly taste and dissolved solids rather than heavy lifting.
What households use it for
- Drinking water, coffee, tea and ice without the chloramine taste.
- Cooking water for rice, beans and soups.
- Pets' water bowls.
- Baby formula preparation, following your pediatrician's guidance.
- Replacing bottled water deliveries or store runs.
Limits and certifications
RO treats only its faucet; showers and laundry are unchanged. For any specific contaminant, check that the exact model is certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for it. RO is a common method for reducing fluoride; WASD stopped adding fluoride in June 2025, but natural fluoride remains. Read alkaline vs. standard RO if you're deciding between styles.
Tank or tankless
Traditional RO stores treated water in a small pressurized tank under the sink. Tankless models make water on demand and save cabinet space but usually need an electrical outlet. In many Miami Lakes kitchens the cabinet also holds a disposal, so Jorge measures before recommending one style. See tankless vs. tank RO.
Installation in Miami Lakes homes
Jorge checks cabinet space, the countertop material for the faucet hole, the drain connection and water pressure. Townhome and condo owners should check association rules; renters need the owner's OK. Some setups also feed the fridge's ice maker.
Countertop holes are drilled carefully on stone; if you'd rather not drill, some sinks have a spare hole for the faucet.
Upkeep
Each stage has its own replacement interval, and pre-filters protect the membrane, so keeping them on schedule matters most. RO sends some water to the drain as it works. Jorge lists the schedule on your itemized quote after the free test. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
Ask whether filters are standard sizes or proprietary, and where you'll buy them later.
