What the free in-home test covers
- Total chlorine / chloramine, the disinfectant NMB Water keeps in its pipes.
- Hardness, to see whether the plant's softening leaves anything worth treating.
- Total dissolved solids (TDS), a quick overall mineral reading.
- pH.
- Iron, if you see stains or have a well.
Jorge tests hot and cold where it matters, and the kitchen and a bathroom when complaints differ between them.
Read NMB Water's report alongside your results
NMB Water publishes an annual Water Quality Report, also called a Consumer Confidence Report, on its website, in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole. The 2025 edition covers testing from January through December 2025 and says the utility collected more than 2,580 samples and ran more than 66,000 tests. It lists detected contaminants with the year tested, the range of results and the regulatory limit. Questions about the report go to its Water Quality Manager at 305-948-2960.
Your tap test and the report answer different questions: the report shows what the utility delivered across the system; the tap test shows what is at your faucet today, after your own pipes, water heater and any existing filter.
Two quick tips for reading it. First, check the year tested for each line, because some parameters are not sampled every year. Second, look at the range, not only the headline number: blending water from two aquifers and three treatment processes means results can vary within the system.
When a certified lab is the right call
- Lead: NMB's 2025 inventory found no lead service lines, but home plumbing and fixtures vary. A lab test answers the question for your tap.
- Bacteria and nitrates in a private well, which Florida DOH recommends testing every year.
- PFAS, which need specialized lab methods.
See home screening vs. lab analysis.
How to prepare
- Do not run a water softener regeneration or change filters right before the visit.
- Note when you smell or see a problem: hot only, cold only, one room, mornings.
- Have a recent water bill and, if you have a filter, its model number.
- If you were away for a while, mention it; water that sat in pipes behaves differently.
What happens after
If your water does not need a system, Jorge tells you. If something fits, he explains the options and gives an itemized quote, and you decide in your own time. See what happens during a home water assessment. Book by call, text or WhatsApp at (305) 793-5974.
