What the city tests, and what it does not
According to the city's Water Plant FAQs, North Miami analyzes 15 water quality parameters every hour and tests more than 100 sample sites across the city each month. If you have a concern, the Winson Water Plant (305-953-2854) can take a sample from an outside spigot to be analyzed by a state-certified lab. For contaminants in your home's own plumbing, the city points residents to the Florida Department of Health's list of certified laboratories and to the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline.
What Jorge tests at your tap
| Reading | Why it matters in North Miami |
|---|---|
| Total and free chlorine | Chloramine level; the city reports 2.0 ppm in its system |
| Hardness | What remains after lime softening |
| Total dissolved solids | Mineral content and RO baseline |
| pH | Taste and media performance |
| Iron and odor | Brown water, stains and smells |
Three ways to test, compared
- City sample at the spigot: confirms the water arriving at your property.
- Jorge's in-home screening: the everyday factors that drive equipment choices, at your kitchen tap, explained on the spot.
- Certified laboratory: needed for lead at low levels, PFAS, bacteria or anything that must be documented.
See home screening vs. lab analysis.
Lead questions
The city's report says residents concerned about lead can call 305-895-9838 to ask about testing, and its tap sampling found 1.8 ppb at the 90th percentile with none of 30 homes above the action level. The city is also asking residents to identify their service line material through its Lead and Copper Rules Revision survey.
How the visit goes
- Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
- Jorge tests the kitchen tap, plus hot water if you have a smell question.
- He explains each reading in plain words.
- If nothing is needed, he says so. If something fits, you get an itemized quote.

Good times to test
- When you move into a North Miami home or condo.
- After brown water or a new smell.
- When scale or spots build up faster than usual.
- Before buying any filter, so you buy for your actual water.
