Why the reports look out of date
Annual reports cover the previous year and list each contaminant's most recent required sample. Oakland Park's posted Water Quality Report 2024 was written before the law took effect, so its treatment description still includes fluoridation. Broward County's 2025 report lists fluoride results from samples taken between 2023 and 2025, partly before the change. Newer reports should show only natural fluoride. For a current number at your tap, use a certified lab.
If you are comparing reports over several years, expect the fluoride line to drop once samples after July 2025 appear, since only natural fluoride will remain. Until then, the most reliable current figure for your home is a certified lab result.
The law in one line
Senate Bill 700 bars adding fluoride to public water systems in Florida from July 1, 2025. It covers the City of Oakland Park, Broward County and Fort Lauderdale alike. It does not change natural fluoride in the Biscayne Aquifer.
Ways to reduce fluoride at home
| Method | Fluoride? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Reverse osmosis | A common method | Check the model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing or data sheet |
| Activated alumina | Designed for it in some systems | Maintenance matters |
| Pitcher and fridge filters | Usually not | Check the listing |
| Whole-home carbon | No | Aimed at chloramine |
See what to look for in a fluoride reduction system.
Whatever method you choose, it only works within its rated capacity. Activated alumina, for example, needs media replacement or regeneration, and RO membranes and pre-filters need changing on schedule. Put the maintenance plan in writing before you buy.
Our position
This page explains the water and the equipment, not whether fluoride is good or bad for you. Talk with your dentist or doctor about fluoride and dental care. Living Water's under-sink systems are multi-stage alkaline RO units; ask Jorge for the model's performance data so you can verify any fluoride claim yourself.
Getting a current number
If fluoride is your main concern, ask a certified lab for a fluoride test before buying equipment, so you know your starting point. Ask the lab for its method and reporting limit so later results are comparable. Then compare that number with the exact model's performance data.
