What RO changes in Oakland Park water
Oakland Park's 2024 report lists chloramines at 2.6 ppm and sodium at 28.2 ppm in the water the city delivers. A reverse osmosis membrane lowers dissolved solids like sodium, and the carbon stages ahead of it remove chloramine. The result is the neutral, clean-tasting water many people want for coffee, tea, ice, rice and baby bottles, without buying cases of bottled water.
Broward County customers in North Andrews Gardens and Lakeside, and Fort Lauderdale customers in Twin Lakes South, get similar benefits; the exact numbers are in each provider's report.
The pre-filter is the part that matters most
- Chloramine damages many RO membranes, so the carbon stage must be designed for it.
- On chloraminated water the pre-filter is consumed faster; keep to the schedule.
- Ask for the exact model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing and performance data sheet.
Alkaline RO
Standard RO water tastes very neutral and can be slightly acidic. Living Water's under-sink systems are multi-stage alkaline RO units with a dedicated faucet; the alkaline stage adds minerals back for taste. It is a taste preference, not a health claim. See alkaline vs. standard RO and the compact alkaline RO.
Installation in Oakland Park kitchens
| Home | What to check |
|---|---|
| Condo or villa | Association rules, cabinet space, drain access |
| Older ranch house | Shut-off valve condition, cabinet depth |
| New townhome | Stone counter for the faucet hole, ice maker line |
| Rental | Landlord permission; compact units are easy to remove |
RO and fluoride
Fort Lauderdale says it stopped adding fluoride before July 2025, as Florida law now requires of all public systems, including Broward County's. Natural fluoride remains. RO is a common method for lowering it; check fluoride on the exact model's listing. See fluoride in Oakland Park.
Day-to-day ownership
Living with an RO system is simple: you fill from its faucet and change filters on schedule. A few tips for Oakland Park kitchens: replace old shut-off valves during installation in older houses; choose tankless if cabinet space is tight; and ask for a line to the refrigerator if you want clearer-tasting ice. Keep the filter dates on a label inside the cabinet so nothing gets missed.
