Step one: find your provider and its report
| Where you live | Who delivers your water | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| Most of Oakland Park | City of Oakland Park, using water treated by the City of Fort Lauderdale | Public Works, 954-630-4430 |
| North Andrews Gardens and Lakeside | Broward County Water and Wastewater Services | 954-831-3250 |
| Twin Lakes South | City of Fort Lauderdale | 954-828-8000 |
- City of Oakland Park: the Water Quality Report is posted on the city website; questions to Public Works Operations at (954) 630-4430.
- Broward County: the 2025 report is online at broward.org/waterservices, with a district map.
- Fort Lauderdale: its report is at fortlauderdale.gov.
What to look for in the report
- Treatment: lime softening for city and county water; Fort Lauderdale is moving to nanofiltration and ion exchange at Prospect Lake.
- Disinfectant: chloramines; Oakland Park's 2024 report lists 2.6 ppm.
- Sodium and fluoride in the inorganic table, with sampling dates.
- Disinfection byproducts: TTHM and HAA5 against limits of 80 and 60.
- Lead and copper: Oakland Park notes sampling again in summer 2026, and offers a Lead and Copper Customer Portal on its Water Information page.
What the free in-home test covers
| Check | What it decides |
|---|---|
| Chloramine | Filter type and size |
| Hardness | Whether a softener is needed |
| TDS | What RO will change |
| pH | Taste and equipment |
| Iron, if relevant | Stains, usually from wells |
See what happens during a home water assessment.
Bring notes on anything you have noticed, such as a smell in the shower, spots on glass, a change after a boil water notice or street work, and the provider name on your bill. If you rent, mention what you are allowed to install; if you run a business, list the equipment that uses water.
When a certified lab is the right tool
- Lead: older plumbing, or concerns about your service line.
- Bacteria and nitrate: any private drinking well.
- PFAS: certified labs using EPA methods only.
Details: home screening vs. lab analysis.
Good times to test
- Before buying any treatment equipment.
- After Fort Lauderdale's move to the Prospect Lake plant, if you are a city or Twin Lakes South customer.
- After a precautionary boil water notice is lifted in your area, if taste or color still seems off. Oakland Park posts these notices on its Water Information page.
- After plumbing work or a remodel.
