Why RO on Village water
The Village removes organics with MIEX and hardness with lime softening, then adds chloramines so water stays disinfected through the distribution system. Lime-softened water still carries dissolved minerals and the disinfectant. An RO system at your sink removes the chloramine taste and lowers dissolved solids right where you drink and cook.
For most households, it replaces bottled water and gives better-tasting ice and coffee.
The 2025 report's detected-contaminant table also lists trace nitrate, nitrite and dichloromethane, all well under their limits. RO is not needed to meet standards, but it lowers dissolved solids in general, which many people notice as cleaner-tasting water, clearer ice and less residue in kettles.
How multi-stage alkaline RO works
- Sediment and carbon prefilters reduce particles, chlorine and chloramine and protect the membrane.
- The RO membrane reduces dissolved solids.
- A tank or direct-flow design feeds the faucet.
- An alkaline stage adds minerals back for taste.
Compare alkaline vs. standard RO.
Fitting RO in Palm Springs homes, apartments and condos
Jorge checks cabinet space, a cold water supply, a drain connection and the faucet location. Apartment and condo residents often choose RO because it needs no main-line work. In older homes, he checks the under-sink shut-off valve, which can be stiff. RO can also feed a refrigerator ice maker with extra tubing.
Ask where the storage tank will sit, if the system uses one, and whether a leak shut-off is included. Those small details are where quotes for similar systems often differ.
Specific contaminants and certification
If you have a specific concern, choose a system certified for that contaminant under NSF/ANSI 58 and check the exact model's listing. The Village reports all its service lines are non-lead materials, but faucets and older home plumbing are separate; the report suggests a filter certified to reduce lead if you are concerned. We do not claim Living Water's systems remove PFAS or any contaminant beyond their listings.
Maintenance
Prefilter life depends on chloramine and sediment; the Village's 2025 range was 1.3 to 3.7 ppm. Membrane life depends on TDS and use. The Village's own tip is to replace filter cartridges according to the manufacturer's instructions. See RO cost drivers and RO maintenance costs.
Seasonal homes should flush the system after long absences.
