City water or well water? Check first
In Palmetto Bay, this question is not a formality. Most homes are on WASD water, but WASD is still running new mains down some village streets; in June 2026 the Village announced new 8-inch mains along SW 141 Terrace and along SW 178 Street and SW 178 Terrace. If you have no Miami-Dade Water and Sewer bill, you are on a private well and should read well water in Palmetto Bay instead. A city water system and a well system are built for different problems.
What a city water system does here
WASD's Orr plant lime-softens Biscayne Aquifer water, filters it, and adds chlorine plus ammonia so chloramine protects it through the pipes; the 2025 report lists 2.5 ppm on the main system. Once that water reaches your home, a whole-home system's job is comfort: no disinfectant taste in the kitchen, no pool smell in the shower, the same water at every faucet. It is not a softener and not a substitute for RO at the drinking tap.
Sizing for Palmetto Bay houses
- Larger homes and more bathrooms mean higher peak flow, and chloramine needs contact time. Undersized media lets more through when several fixtures run.
- Where the irrigation line splits off. On big lots that water from the county line, the system belongs after the irrigation tee so you do not filter lawn water.
- Guest houses or pool baths on separate lines may need their own planning.
- Placement near the main, out of direct sun where possible.
Recently connected from a well?
Homes that switch from a private well to WASD water often notice two changes: less hardness and iron than the well had, and a chlorine-type taste that was not there before. Old well equipment, such as a softener or iron filter, may no longer be needed on county water. Jorge can look at what is installed and tell you what to keep, bypass or remove. Abandoning the well itself is a separate regulated step; ask the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade about the requirements.
Equipment and certifications
Living Water uses equipment from Puronics, a water treatment manufacturer since 1947. See the city water system page. For any contaminant claim beyond chlorine and chloramine, check the exact model's certification listing. Compare approaches in whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.
