PINECREST · WHOLE-HOME FILTRATION

Whole-Home Water Filtration in Pinecrest

A whole-home filter treats water at the main line, so every tap, shower and appliance gets the same water. For Pinecrest homes on WASD county water, the usual goal is chloramine, the disinfectant formed at the Orr plant. Living Water installs Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring city water systems, which it describes as removing chloramine and chlorine. Homes still on a private well need a well system instead, built from a lab and in-home test.

Start with your source

Pinecrest has both. The Village spent 2022 and 2023 building water mains through areas that lacked them and conveying them to WASD, and owners along those mains can connect. If you have a Miami-Dade Water and Sewer bill, you are on county water and this page applies. If you do not, read well water in Pinecrest first; a city water system is not built for well water.

What it does on county water

WASD's Orr plant lime-softens Biscayne Aquifer water, filters it, then adds chlorine and ammonia to form chloramine. The 2025 report lists 2.5 ppm on the main system, within the limit of 4. That residual protects the water across a large distribution system. At home, a whole-home system removes it before it reaches your showers and faucets, so the water tastes and smells the same everywhere. It is a comfort and taste upgrade, not a correction of water that fails a standard.

Sizing a Pinecrest house

  • Bathrooms and fixtures: many Pinecrest homes are large, and chloramine needs contact time at peak flow.
  • Service line and meter size, which WASD sets by home size when you connect.
  • Irrigation: if sprinklers draw county water, the system goes after the irrigation tee; if they draw from a well, they are separate entirely.
  • Guest houses, pool baths and outdoor kitchens on separate branches.
  • Placement near the main, shaded where possible.

After switching from a well

Owners who connect to WASD may still have well equipment in the line: an iron filter, a softener, sometimes a pressure tank. On lime-softened county water, some of it may no longer be needed, and the water now carries chloramine the old equipment was never designed to handle. Jorge reviews what is installed and tells you what to keep, bypass or remove. The Village's connection steps include Florida Department of Health approval to abandon the well or convert it to irrigation, so the well itself is handled separately.

Equipment and claims

Living Water uses Puronics equipment; Puronics has manufactured water treatment systems since 1947. See the city water system page. Any contaminant claim beyond chlorine and chloramine must be on the exact model's certification listing. Compare approaches in whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.

Common questions

Do Pinecrest homes need a whole-home filter?

Not for compliance; WASD's water meets standards. Owners choose one for chloramine taste and odor at every tap.

Will a city water system work on my well?

No. Well water needs a system configured from the well's test.

What should I do with old well equipment after connecting?

Have it reviewed. Some may be unnecessary on lime-softened county water.

Does it remove chloramine?

Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring whole-home systems as removing chloramine and chlorine.

What does it cost?

It depends on your home and system. Jorge gives you an itemized quote after the free test.

Will it soften the water?

No. Filtration and softening are different jobs; the Orr plant already lime-softens county water.
