Why you might still see spots
- All water has dissolved solids. When water evaporates on glass, it leaves something behind, even soft water.
- Sprinkler overspray from an irrigation well hits windows, screens and cars.
- Salt spray near the beach leaves its own film.
- A private well carries unsoftened aquifer water.
If you also use a private well for household water, the picture changes completely: untreated Biscayne Aquifer water carries the hardness the city removes at its plants, and scale on fixtures and water heater elements is common.
Indoors vs. outdoors
| Where | Usual source |
|---|---|
| Shower doors, faucets | Tap water drying; test hardness and TDS |
| Windows, cars, screen enclosures | Irrigation water or salt air |
| Ice maker, kettle | Dissolved minerals; RO helps for drinking water |
Softener vs. conditioner
An ion-exchange softener removes hardness. A salt-free conditioner changes how minerals behave but leaves them in the water. On Pompano Beach city water, neither may be necessary. On a hard well, a softener is the usual answer. Compare in salt-free conditioner vs. ion-exchange softener.
Spot-free drinking water and glassware
If spotting on glasses and kettles bothers you, under-sink RO lowers total dissolved solids in drinking water. See under-sink RO.
RO also helps coffee makers and kettles, which build up mineral deposits from boiling water over time.
Cleaning and prevention tips
- Squeegee shower glass after use; spots form as water evaporates.
- Use a vinegar-based cleaner on fixtures; test on a hidden spot first.
- Adjust sprinklers so they don't spray windows and screen enclosures.
- Rinse cars with low-TDS water if spotting bothers you.
Business equipment
For a restaurant dishwasher, coffee machine, ice maker or car wash in Pompano Beach, spotting and scale tolerance are set by the equipment manufacturer. Even on softened city water, some equipment calls for lower hardness or lower TDS. Living Water offers ion-exchange softening plants for businesses, sized after testing and a look at the equipment specs.
