What the plant already does
The USD air-strips raw well water to eliminate volatile organic compounds, lime-softens it with lime and polymer, disinfects with chlorine and ammonia, and filters it. The part that reaches your faucet on purpose is the disinfectant. A whole-home filter reduces it after the water enters your house, once it has done its job in the city's pipes.
What a whole-home system does
- Reduces chlorine and chloramine at showers, sinks and laundry.
- Uses media designed for chloramine, such as catalytic carbon, with enough contact time.
- Covers the free chlorine flush periods too.
Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring whole-home systems as removing chloramine and chlorine.
Sizing for Riviera Beach homes
Homes range from mid-century houses west of Broadway to newer townhomes and waterfront properties. Sizing depends on bathrooms, simultaneous use, main line size, where the line enters, and whether irrigation shares the line. Older homes may also have older plumbing, which is a plumber's question to settle alongside the filter.
Planning around the new plant
The district plans to fully replace its water treatment plant, with construction projected from spring 2026 to fall 2029. When a new plant comes online, a utility may change treatment steps. Choose a system for today's water from a test, and ask how its media or setup could be adjusted if a future report shows a change.
Whole-home or under-sink
| Main concern | Usually enough |
|---|---|
| Chlorine smell in the shower | Whole-home |
| Drinking water taste | Under-sink RO |
| Both | Whole-home plus under-sink RO |
See under-sink RO in Riviera Beach and whole-house filtration vs. RO.
Condos and apartments
In a condo, the main line is often shared or inaccessible, so a whole-home system may not be possible. Under-sink RO, and sometimes a point-of-entry filter for your unit where plumbing allows, are the realistic options. Jorge checks what your building allows.
