Who can install one
| Property | Whole-home possible? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single-family home | Yes | Installed at the main, with a bypass |
| Townhouse with its own meter | Usually | Check HOA rules and where the line enters |
| Condo unit | Rarely | Main line belongs to the building; use under-sink RO |
| Entire building | Association decision | Needs engineering for flow, pumps and space |
What the system is solving
NMB Water already softens, nanofilters or reverse-osmosis treats its source water at the Norwood plant, then blends and disinfects it, according to its 2025 Water Quality Report. What reaches you carries a chloramine residual by design. A whole-home system's job is to reduce that residual inside your property so the shower, the kitchen and the ice maker do not taste or smell of it.
Sizing for chloramine
Chloramine needs more contact time than free chlorine and is usually handled with catalytic carbon. The media bed is sized to your home's peak flow: the number of bathrooms, the pipe size, and how many fixtures run at once. Undersized systems let more chloramine through during heavy use. Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring whole-home systems as removing chlorine and chloramine; ask for the documentation on the exact unit quoted. Installing near the ocean
Equipment installed outdoors on a barrier island sits in sun, wind, salt air and storm season. Jorge looks at where the system can be mounted, how it will be protected from the elements, and how to keep a bypass accessible for service. In some homes a garage or utility room is the better location. Ask any installer how the equipment is anchored and covered, and what the warranty says about outdoor installation.
For condo owners
If you live in a tower, you can still reduce chloramine where it matters most to you: under-sink alkaline RO for drinking and cooking water, and a chloramine-rated shower filter for the bathroom. If enough owners are interested, building-level treatment is a conversation for the board and its engineer. See whole-house vs. under-sink filters.
