TAMIAMI · FLUORIDE

Fluoride Water Filter in Tamiami

WASD, Tamiami's water supplier, stopped adding fluoride at its Orr, Preston and Hialeah plants on June 6, 2025, under County Resolution R-370-25 and Florida Senate Bill 700. That covers both sides of SW 8 Street. WASD reports natural main-system levels of about 0.1 to 0.3 ppm since then. If you want to reduce fluoride further, reverse osmosis is a common method; confirm the exact model's certification for fluoride.

The 2025 change

The County Commission approved Resolution R-370-25 on May 6, 2025, and Florida's Senate Bill 700 was signed on May 15, 2025, effective July 1. WASD stopped adding fluoride at all three regional plants on June 6, 2025. WASD says the change does not significantly affect treatment processes or compliance with water quality standards. What remains comes from naturally occurring fluoride in the soil and Biscayne Aquifer.

Reading the numbers

WASD's 2025 data table shows a yearly fluoride range for the main system that includes months before and after the change. The footnote's post-change figure, about 0.1 to 0.3 ppm, is the one that describes Tamiami's water today. The next annual report should cover a full year without added fluoride.

Deciding whether to filter

Living Water does not make health claims for or against fluoride. Some households that had planned to filter it decide that natural levels are fine for them; others still prefer to reduce it. Dental and medical questions belong with your dentist or doctor.

If you rely on fluoride from other sources, such as toothpaste, that is a conversation for your dentist, not a water treatment company. Living Water's role is limited to explaining what equipment does and what its listing says.

Methods

MethodNotes
Reverse osmosisA common point-of-use approach; verify the model's listing
Activated aluminaSpecialty media; performance depends on pH and contact time
Standard carbonNot designed for fluoride
Whole-home city filterAimed at chlorine and chloramine, not fluoride

Activated alumina and RO both depend on maintenance: once media or membranes pass their rated capacity, a certified claim no longer applies.

Questions to ask about a fluoride claim

  1. Does the exact model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing name fluoride reduction?
  2. What capacity and test conditions back the claim?
  3. How often must the membrane and pre-filters be replaced to keep it?

Living Water's under-sink alkaline RO is a multi-stage RO drinking-water system; ask Jorge for the model's specifications and check its listing.

Wells and next step

Natural fluoride varies from well to well; a certified lab test tells you yours. For a free in-home visit, call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.

If your main goal is less chloramine rather than less fluoride, a whole-home system or chloramine filter is the more relevant page.

Is fluoride added to Tamiami's water?

No. WASD stopped adding it on June 6, 2025.

How much fluoride is in it now?

About 0.1 to 0.3 ppm from natural sources, according to WASD.

Does carbon remove fluoride?

Standard carbon is not designed for it. RO is a common method; check certification.

Does it matter which side of SW 8 Street I live on?

No. All three WASD regional plants stopped adding fluoride.

Should I filter fluoride?

That is a personal choice; ask your dentist or doctor about health questions.

Does a whole-home filter remove fluoride?

Living Water's whole-home city systems are aimed at chlorine and chloramine.
