The same disinfectant on both sides of the Trail
Tamiami straddles SW 8 Street, and WASD names different plants on each side: Orr to the south, Hialeah and Preston to the north. The softening steps differ a little, but the disinfection does not. WASD's report says chlorine is added first and ammonia is then added to form chloramine, which stays active through the shared distribution system. The main system average was 2.5 ppm in 2025. That residual is what a whole-home system is chosen to reduce.
What changes in daily life
- Showers without the pool-like smell, especially hot ones
- Bathroom sinks used for brushing teeth
- Laundry, dishwasher and kitchen tap on the same filtered water
- Ice maker and fridge dispenser lines
It does not soften water by itself; hardness is a separate question covered in softener vs. filter in Tamiami.
Living Water's city water systems
For city water, Living Water uses the Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring systems. Jorge will show you the specifications of the model he recommends and its service schedule. For any claim beyond chlorine, chloramine, taste and odor, look up the exact model's certification listing. The general standard for chloramine reduction is NSF/ANSI 42, with chloramine named on the listing.
Planning the install
Before quoting, Jorge checks a few things on site:
- Where the main line enters, often on an outside wall near the hose bib
- Whether sprinklers are tied into the county line, so the irrigation branch can bypass the system
- Pipe size and material
- Space, drain and power, since some systems backwash
- Household size and number of bathrooms, which set the flow the system must handle
Homes on the north side of the Trail and the south side get the same kind of system; the differences that change the quote are inside the house, not at the plant.
Pairing with a drinking-water stage
Some Tamiami households add under-sink alkaline RO at the kitchen for drinking and cooking water with lower dissolved minerals. The whole-home stage handles chloramine everywhere; the RO handles the glass you drink. Compare in whole-house filtration vs. reverse osmosis.
Upkeep questions and next step
- Media or cartridge replacement interval at your usage
- Backwash frequency and water use, if any
- Bypass valve location
- What service visits include
Because WASD switches to free chlorine for a couple of weeks a few times a year, the system should handle both forms. For pricing factors see water filtration cost in Tamiami. Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
