Why RO in Tequesta
The Village treats its 4 deep Floridan wells with reverse osmosis and its 10 surficial wells with direct filtration, then blends and chloraminates the water. An under-sink RO system finishes the job at the one tap where you drink: it takes out the chloramine taste and lowers dissolved solids from the blended water.
Most households choose it for taste and to stop buying bottled water.
RO also lowers whatever your home's own plumbing adds. The Village's lead and copper sampling found low levels across sampled homes, with a 90th percentile of 3.10 ppb lead and 0.53 ppm copper. The report suggests that anyone concerned about lead use a filter certified by an ANSI-accredited certifier to reduce lead; if that matters to you, choose an RO model listed for lead reduction.
How multi-stage alkaline RO works
- Sediment and carbon prefilters reduce particles, chlorine and chloramine and protect the membrane.
- The RO membrane reduces dissolved solids.
- A tank or direct-flow design feeds the faucet.
- An alkaline stage adds minerals back for taste.
Compare alkaline vs. standard RO.
PFAS and certification
Because the Village has published PFAS results, some Tequesta residents ask whether RO helps. RO is a technology commonly certified for PFOA and PFOS reduction under NSF/ANSI 58, but certification is model-specific. Check the exact model's listing for PFOA and PFOS before relying on it. We do not claim Living Water's systems remove PFAS. See PFAS filters in Tequesta.
Installation in Tequesta homes and condos
Jorge checks cabinet space, cold water supply, drain connection and the faucet location. In condos along Beach Road and the river, under-sink RO is often the practical choice because it needs no main-line work. In older homes he checks under-sink valves, which can be worn.
Offices and gyms can use the same systems in break rooms. For a home, RO can also feed a refrigerator ice maker with extra tubing; ask for that on the quote.
Maintenance
Prefilter life depends on chloramine and sediment; with Tequesta's chloramine ranging from 0.6 to 3.8 ppm, a schedule based on your use matters more than a calendar. Membrane life depends on TDS and use. See RO cost drivers and RO maintenance costs.
