Start with the city's report
Weston's 2025 Water Quality Report covers monitoring from January 1 to December 31, 2025, carried out by the City of Sunrise Utilities Department, which owns and operates the treatment plant. It lists the source (Biscayne Aquifer wells), the treatment (membrane softening and chloramine disinfection), and the measured levels of regulated contaminants. It is linked from the city's Water and Sewer Utility page. Questions go to the Director of Public Works at 954-385-2600.
Bonaventure residents should read the City of Sunrise report for their service area instead; Sunrise's water quality page links all three and a service area map.
What a home test adds
- Chloramine at your tap: the report lists a range of 1.0 to 4 ppm across samples, so your level may differ.
- Hardness and TDS, to confirm whether a softener is even worth discussing.
- Iron and pH, useful if you see staining.
- Hot vs. cold, if you notice a smell.
Brown or yellow water: what the city says
Weston's Common Issues page gives practical advice. If brownish water is mainly from the hot tap, have the water heater inspected. If you have a filtration system, make sure the filter has been changed. Let the water run for a minute, and if it continues, call Weston Public Works at 954-385-2600. Yellow water is often sediment stirred up in the lines, for example during the city's annual hydrant flushing.
Lead and lab testing
Weston's 2025 report says its service line survey found no lead service lines, and 2023 tap sampling at thirty locations did not exceed the lead or copper action levels. If you have a specific concern about lead in your own plumbing, a certified laboratory test is the right tool, not an in-home screening. The same goes for PFAS and bacteria. See home screening vs. lab analysis.
Private wells
If your property uses a private well for drinking, the Florida Department of Health recommends testing it at least once a year for bacteria and nitrate through a certified lab or your county health department. See well water in Weston.
How the visit works
- Call, text or WhatsApp (305) 793-5974.
- Jorge tests at your kitchen tap and anywhere else that matters.
- He walks you through the results in plain words.
- If a system fits, you get an itemized quote. If not, he says so.
