What you can measure
- Chloramine: 2.5 ppm for Bal Harbour Village in 2025. Hot water and steam make it more noticeable.
- Hardness: WASD softens at the plant; what remains affects lather and rinsing.
- The yearly free chlorine weeks: some people notice a difference during WASD's two-week switch.
We make no medical claims. Rashes, eczema and persistent irritation belong with a dermatologist.
Hotter water also opens the question of the water heater setting, which a plumber can check.
Oceanfront living factors
Beach days, pool time, sun and long hours in air-conditioned rooms all affect how skin and hair feel, independent of tap water. Rinsing after swimming and moisturizing help either way. Testing separates the shower water's contribution from everything else, so you do not spend on equipment for a problem the water is not causing.
Many Bal Harbour residents also split the year between homes. If skin feels different here than elsewhere, the comparison is useful, but climate and routine change too, so a test is the fairer way to judge the water.
Keep a two-week log
- Is it different during WASD's free chlorine weeks?
- Is it different when you travel or stay elsewhere?
- Does soap leave a film or rinse slowly?
- Does it track beach or pool days?
- Does a cooler, shorter shower change it?
Bring the log to your free test; it helps Jorge separate water from everything else.
Options for a Bal Harbour house
A whole-home city water system on the domestic line reduces chloramine at every shower, including steam showers and rain heads. Living Water describes its Puronics whole-home systems as removing chloramine and chlorine. If testing shows meaningful hardness, a softener can be added. Give any change a few weeks and keep the same notes before judging.
Steam showers deserve a mention: steam carries the chloramine smell more than a normal shower, which is one reason some homeowners notice it most there. A whole-home system treats the water before it reaches the steam generator.
Options for a tower unit
Whole-home treatment is usually not possible in a unit. A shower filter whose listing includes chloramine reduction is the simplest step, one per shower you use. Small cartridges wear out quickly in hot, high-flow showers and rain heads, so follow the replacement interval, and check any "vitamin C" chloramine claim against a listing. Pair it with under-sink RO for drinking water.
