System choices that change the price
- Number and type of stages, including any remineralization stage. See alkaline vs. standard RO.
- Tank or tankless: see tankless vs. tank RO.
- Faucet style and finish.
- Pressure: some homes need a booster pump.
Each of these choices can be right; the point is that two quotes with different stages, tanks or faucets are not directly comparable. Ask what each choice does for your water and your kitchen, and whether a simpler configuration would serve you just as well.
Your water and filter life
Cooper City's 2025 report shows membrane-softened water with a 1.9 ppm chlorine average and sodium at 16 ppm. Lower hardness and dissolved solids are easier on an RO membrane than untreated well water, and the carbon pre-filter mainly works on the disinfectant. Your test confirms this for your tap, and the filter schedule in your quote should reflect it, not a generic interval.
Your kitchen
- Cabinet space, especially with a garbage disposal.
- Countertop material if a new faucet hole is needed.
- Distance to the refrigerator if you want filtered ice and water.
- Drain access for the RO's waste line.
Many Cooper City kitchens have stone counters, where a new faucet hole takes more care than laminate. A spare hole for a soap dispenser or sprayer can sometimes be reused instead.
Ongoing costs
- Replacement intervals for each pre-filter, the membrane and post-filters.
- Whether you can change them yourself.
- Water sent to drain at your pressure.
See RO maintenance and operating costs and RO filter replacement cost.
A system that is easy to service yourself can lower ownership costs over time.
Compare quotes on equal terms
Ask every installer for the stages, membrane rating, tank size, faucet, installation scope and filter schedule in writing, and for the water test the quote is based on. Use how to compare water treatment quotes as a checklist.
