The options side by side
| Option | Good for | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Pitcher | Renters, small households | Small cartridges; check chloramine and other claims |
| Fridge filter | Convenience | Short contact time; many list chlorine only |
| Under-sink alkaline RO | Drinking and cooking water for families | Needs cabinet space, faucet and drain |
| Whole-home filter | Chloramine at every tap and shower | Does not lower dissolved solids like RO |
What Cutler Bay's water brings to the decision
- Chloramine from WASD, 2.5 ppm on the main system in 2025, is the most common taste complaint.
- No added fluoride since June 6, 2025; natural levels of about 0.1 to 0.3 ppm remain.
- Lime softening at the Orr plant reduces hardness before the water arrives.
- PFAS results for the main system are published in WASD's report.
How to choose
- Name the goal. Taste? Specific contaminants? Replacing bottled water?
- Check certifications for any contaminant claim on the exact model: NSF/ANSI 42 for chloramine taste and odor, 53 or 58 for health-related claims such as PFOA and PFOS.
- Count your use. A family that cooks at home goes through more water than a pitcher can keep up with.
- Ask about upkeep: filter schedule and what it involves.
If you rent, start portable: a certified pitcher or countertop unit you can take with you. If you own, an under-sink RO is permanent and serves the whole family without refilling anything. If you are buying a home with a well, test the well before you choose any drinking water system, because the answer changes completely.
Living Water's option
Living Water installs a multi-stage alkaline reverse osmosis system under the sink, with a dedicated faucet, for homes, offices, apartments and gyms. Many Cutler Bay single-family homes pair it with a whole-home system. Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS.
Offices, gyms and rentals
The same alkaline RO fits offices, apartments and gyms along US-1. For a small office, one under-sink system with a dedicated faucet often replaces a delivery service. For rentals, a landlord may prefer a whole-home filter for showers and an RO for the kitchen, both with a written maintenance schedule so tenants know when service is due.
